Contribute from an IRA
Individuals age 70 and older are allowed to give to a non-profit up to $100,000 directly from their Individual Retirement Account each year. Unlike other withdrawals, a contribution to the New Marlborough Land Trust from an IRA is not subject to ordinary income tax essentially a 100% deduction! The distribution is not included in your income, so you avoid the negative consequences that regular IRA withdrawals in retirement can often create, including taxes on Social Security benefits. (It can also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution.) Always discuss with your financial or tax advisor first.
